Effective Treatment for Addiction
Based on the research from the mid-70s until today we have learned that treatment for addiction can help patients not only stop using drugs but avoid relapse and successfully regain their lives. There are a few key components that need to be implemented in order for treatment to be effective.
Addiction is a very treatable but complex disease that affects the brain as well as the behavior of the addicted person there is no single treatment model that will work for everyone.
Treatment needs to be flexible and adjusted to meet the individual needs in order for it to be effective.
Effective Treatment works with more than drug abuse it must help with all the behaviors that led up to the Addiction as well as Drug Abuse.
Programs need to be flexible on the time spent in treatment to address all the underlying issues of the addiction.
Counseling—- One on One in conjunction with group therapy is the most common form of treatment for Drug and Alcohol Abuse.
The use of Medications to handle underlying mental conditions is needed in some patients.
Individual Treatment Plans need to be made for each client in order for treatment to be effective. this allows for adjustment of treatment as well as remaining flexible in the types of therapy needed.
Medically assisted detoxification from Drugs or Alcohol is the first step of Addiction Treatment. Detox by itself has a 99% relapse rate and does little to change long-term drug or alcohol abuse.
Treatment for addiction does not need to be voluntary to be effective. Any reason to enter a treatment facility is a good reason.
Drug use in an Inpatient drug rehab center does occur and should be monitored and handled through drug screening processes.
Treatment programs will assess all individuals for HIV/Aids, Hepatitis B and C, tuberculosis, and other infectious diseases as well as provide risk-reduction counseling to help the clients reduce their own risk and prolonged exposure to risky behaviors.
Effective Treatment Models
Behavioral therapy and medications, when combined, are very important elements of some treatment therapy processes. This often begins with the detoxification from drugs and alcohol followed by Treatment and relapse prevention. These are very important components of any treatment center for addiction but unless you add an aftercare program to handle the transition to the real world they are not as effective as you might think.
Behavioral Treatments
Behavioral treatment helps the client modify their behaviors and attitudes as related to their drug abuse and increase healthy lifestyle choices. These forms of treatment can encourage clients to stay in treatment longer, as a result the success rate of the individual to remain drug or alcohol-free is increased. treatment for drugs or alcohol can be delivered in many different behavioral approaches and settings.
Cognitive–behavioral therapy, seeks to help patients recognize, avoid, and cope with the situations in which they are most likely to abuse drugs.
Multidimensional family therapy, which was developed for adolescents with drug abuse problems—as well as their families—addresses a range of influences on their drug abuse patterns and is designed to improve overall family functioning.
Motivational interviewing, which capitalizes on the readiness of individuals to change their behavior and enter treatment.
Motivational incentives (contingency management), which use positive reinforcement to encourage abstinence from drugs.
Aftercare and ongoing treatment
Aftercare is the key component that helps with the transition back home after treatment. continued care and counseling give the addicted person a much-needed support system. Without this component, the relapse rate goes up considerably due to no ongoing check and balance system. Most Treatment centers for addiction will include this component in their discharge plan for clients. once you have completed a program you must follow your aftercare program to the letter or you will feel a sense of failure.
We will work with you to decide whether a large Inpatient drug rehab center is best or a more intimate setting is right for you. In-house Treatment programs can vary in size from 3 people to 300 people. At the smaller treatment centers, you will not usually receive more 1 on 1 care than at the 300-person rehab centers. The larger the treatment Center for Addiction usually the lower cost as they will put more clients in one room. this can cut the cost of treatment in half the cost of the smaller Drug Treatment Facilities. Larger Facilities will have more staff to keep the client-to-staff ratio at a level that can be manageable usually 2 clients to each staff member.
Do Not wait until something adverse happens to search out Treatment Programs for Addiction. Often time we wait until it is too late to make a decision to enter a Drug Rehabilitation Center. We receive calls every week from people telling us about their loved one that just died of an overdose or is in the hospital due to their addiction. There is no good time to enter into a Program for Addiction. Addicts have excuses why this is not a good time or that they need some more time to get ready for Treatment. This can be the biggest mistake that you will ever make we don’t want you to think “what If I” for the rest of your life.
